Friday was spent having dinner with a friend from my tour. It was great to see her and somebody who knows me outside of this class. We started dinner around 10pm and when I looked at the clock, it was about 1:30 am. Just sitting outside and watching the people go by, and catching is just a lovely way to spend a nice summer evening in BA!
The lady of the house invited all us students to her friends house yesterday. Well, apparently she has some pretty cool friends. We spent the afternoon of a hot day in the pool and lounging around. Then, we sat around drinking mate with a matisto (a mate specialist). Do you know what this is? It is a south american tea that is sipped through a metal straw because it is just loose tea in the warm water. This is not super normal tea, a little bitter and different, but very good. P.S. not at all like a mate latte...
Then we spent the rest of night cooking typical argentinian barbeque (asado) and playing music and dancing till about 4 am. We danced tango and some crazy dances that I am not exactly sure what they were. It seemed that everyone there was musical, then they heard us sing... after a few more drinks they asked us to sang a couple of songs by ourselves. Most people know I have no fear when displaying my, shall we say, unique talent for song, so it was a fun time for all.
Today was spent waking up lazily and doing homework. Also, from last night, I got the lyrics to 'Gracias a la Vida' (a song I love and got to sing last night) and have been translating them which is fun. Then we (meaning the 3 other main friends from the apartment) went biking around the city. Oh, I have missed biking!! It was great fun to see what typical people from BA do on the weekend. Oh, I hate to rub it in, but it is really soooooo stickin (I hope that's not literally from my end) HOT here!!
Soooooo... I want (AKA they want me) to tell you a bit about the people I am living with here. My main friends are these two Dutch people. Lily (pronounced Leelee) has been going to an international high school in Italy and has been travelling around South America for a few months. She is wanting to study in Argentina after a few weeks here in BA. The other one is a guy, Stefan, who has been living in the states for the past few years and quit his job and is traveling around for who knows how long. They are both quite fun and we always meet for drinks at our 'stam kroeg' (means local pub in Dutch) at 5 everyday for drinks and 'homework'. I'm having fun and trying to not think about what I am doing with my life. I'm not sure if that is progression in the sense that I am free and fun or digression... I will be OOOOOOKKKKK.
Looks like you are having fun. I hope you are studying. I didn't see any helmets with those bikes.
ReplyDeleteMik! Looks and sounds like a blast! Wish I could be there with you! One day at a time, right?

ReplyDeleteAh, BA! I miss having dinner until 2am. I remember seeing a bunch of extras on the shoot drinking mate from those cups and thinking they were doing drugs. So glad you're enjoying it all!
